Just be careful, and mind your wrists! Most of the Kenpo X workout is mild compared to most P90X workouts. However, the part where you may struggle comes at the "rest" breaks, which aren't actually breaks at all. First you'll jog in place, then you'll jump rope, then you'll do jumping jacks, and finally you'll do "X" jumps that'll have you leaping well clear of the floor. During the first half to two thirds of the workout, however, this might be rough for you and you might need a little more of a break to catch your breath.
If that's the case, just stick with jogging in place or jumping rope at whatever pace allows you to catch your breath without cooling down, and just let those crazy people on the screen go ahead and do their jumping jacks.
This might seem like a no-brainer, but I thought I'd mention it, just in case: Kenpo X is not a workout to be done in confined quarters. You won't be leaping around much, but you will need plenty of room to throw a few kicks without damaging your furniture or your feet.
In sum, Kenpo X is a fun workout as long as you disengage your brain from the idea that it might have some resemblance to a real martial art. It's also moderate and almost relaxing by P90X standards, so go ahead and breeze through that finish line for the week.
Then, if this is your first week, pat yourself on the back. You've done it. Did you ever have any doubts? Weight Loss. Healthy Eating. Calorie Counting. Weight Gain. Weight Maintenance. Also, there is one day a week that has Yoga. Yoga X is planned to both stretch and strengthen your muscles. It is very important because many of the exercises in other workouts are based on yoga. That explains why it is 90 minutes long: because of the importance of being flexible and for minimizing potential injuries and soreness from doing other workouts.
That means that you have to be prepared and highly motivated to exercise every day for hour and a half or two. But as we can see not all days are with high intensity, Yoga and Stretching are for repairing and relaxing. The DVDs keep you moving from exercise to exercise, like circuit training.
This high-intensity interval training workout challenges your muscles and heart to make them stronger. P90X is a well-structured exercise program that you can easily adapt for most fitness levels. You'll get a few water breaks, but otherwise it's non-stop action. The last 5 minutes of the routine are a cool-down period. Kenpo X is a non-stop cardiovascular workout that will increase your aerobic endurance, burn calories and promote heart health. This martial arts-inspired routine will give a well-rounded core workout, since you will utilize your abs to lift your legs during kicks, and twist the obliques during punches.
Quickly shifting directions improves explosive power and balance, and the hand and footwork involved will improve your coordination.
Stretching before and after will increase flexibility. At the same time, you'll learn effective moves for defending yourself from physical attacks. If you've performed the Kenpo X workout multiple times and would like to ramp up the intensity you can wear weighted gloves, which will increase the difficulty of each punch and increase your calorie burn.
